56 Arrested in Massachusetts for Child Porn, Child Enticement With Over 200 Laptops Confiscated

A sweeping, three-day law enforcement operation targeting the possession, production and sharing of child sexual abuse material has led to arrests across nearly forty communities in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts State Police detailed the results of Operation Firewall, a coordinated statewide effort developed by the Division of Investigative Services to confront the growing rise of online child exploitation, child enticement and related criminal activity.

Over the course of the operation, troopers executed thirty-four residential search warrants, seized more than two hundred electronic devices and arrested fifty-six individuals between the ages of 18 and 75. The charges they face span child pornography offenses, online enticement, and additional crimes uncovered during the investigation, including outstanding warrants connected to assault and battery of a child, rape of a child and failure to register as a sex offender. Governor Maura Healey praised the coordinated effort, emphasizing the State Police’s ongoing role in protecting the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable residents and thanking the troopers who carried out the operation.

State Police leaders described Operation Firewall as the result of months of work. Colonel Geoffrey Noble highlighted the agency’s continued commitment to identifying and removing child predators from communities, commending troopers for overcoming the increasingly sophisticated tactics offenders use to hide their online activity. Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Tucker noted that the operation reflected the mission of the Department’s Excellence Initiative, underscoring how coordinated investigative work strengthens community safety.

The operation relied on the specialized training and technical expertise of several State Police units, including the Cyber Crime Unit, the High Risk Victims Unit, detective units embedded with District Attorney’s offices, the STOP Team and the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section. With the support of uniformed troopers and local police departments, teams carried out dozens of search warrants and fugitive arrests while also conducting targeted sting operations.

A significant number of the cases originated from Cyber Tips submitted to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Under federal law, electronic service providers must alert NCMEC when they detect suspected child exploitation on their platforms. The Cyber Crime Unit reviews these tips to determine whether the conduct violates Massachusetts criminal statutes and requires further investigation. The volume of these referrals has soared—up more than 270% since 2020. Just last week, NCMEC forwarded more than a thousand new tips for review.

Troopers also worked through the Massachusetts Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, one of more than sixty coordinated ICAC task forces nationwide. These task forces engage in proactive undercover investigations, digital forensics and prosecutions aimed at combating online child victimization. By helping state and local agencies build sustainable responses to online exploitation, the program strengthens law enforcement’s ability to confront technology-driven crimes at every level.

In addition to online investigations, troopers in the High Risk Victims Unit and the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section conducted missions focused on apprehending suspects involved in contact offenses, human trafficking, enticement and aggravated sexual assaults against children. Colonel Noble emphasized that while enforcement is crucial, parents and caregivers also play a central role in prevention. He urged families to remain aware of the content on their children’s devices and the people they interact with online, acknowledging how challenging—but essential—those conversations can be.

District attorneys across the state voiced strong support for the operation, praising the coordination between state and local investigators and underscoring the ongoing need for proactive child-protection efforts. From Worcester County to the Berkshires to Cape Cod, prosecutors emphasized that these investigations require significant time, emotional stamina and technical skill, but that the safety of children makes the work indispensable.

Operation Firewall stands as one of the most extensive statewide child-protection efforts in recent years, demonstrating how collaboration, technology and sustained investigative focus can disrupt offenders and safeguard communities.
